Hong Kong SAR Issues 2025 VT Contractor Ratings

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) on January 22 announced performance ratings of registered vertical-transportation (VT) contractors for the year 2025 (January-December 2025). According to the results, 36 registered elevator and 24 registered escalator contractors were awarded the Safety Star. Among these contractors, 16 registered lift contractors and seven registered escalator contractors were found compliant with the safety and maintenance requirements reported in the last two consecutive announcements of results and were therefore given the highest rating of five Quality Stars, which indicates perfect compliance and willingness to help building owners choose reliable service providers for critical VT equipment. The EMSD conducted 30,005 lift and escalator inspections during the period.
