India’s NF Railway Sanctions 120 VT Units Under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

India’s Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway has sanctioned the installation of 120 vertical-transportation (VT) units — 94 lifts at 46 stations and 26 escalators at 13 stations — under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, an ongoing Indian Railways mission launched in February 2023 by the Ministry of Railways to redevelop 1,275 stations nationwide, Northeast Today reports. Aimed at improving accessibility, the new VT units will add to 45 elevators and 35 escalators serving major stations within the five divisions of NF Railway. In fiscal year 2023-24, four lifts were commissioned — two at the Barsoi and two at Jalpaiguri Road railway stations. During that same timeframe, 26 escalators were being installed at 13 stations.
