Lifts and Escalators Being Repaired at U.K. Shopping Center

Two problematic lifts and one escalator that have frustrated visitors to and residents of the Wharfside Shopping Centre in Penzance, U.K., since summer 2025 are being “fully overhauled,” according to a property spokesperson, providing for “another 15 to 20 years of useful lifespan,” The Cornishman reports. Situated near the harbor in the town in the far southwest of England, Cornwall County, the shopping center is filled with independent shops and has residential flats above. The Cornwall Council said it received matching funds for the lift and escalator repair work, which is slated to be complete by Easter. This, a Wharfside resident said, will greatly enhance safety for elderly and disabled users who will no longer have to take the “dangerously steep” steps.
