Otis will supply 46 vertical-transportation (VT) units for the redevelopment of the Austin Convention Center (ACC) in Austin, Texas, Otis Chair, CEO and President Judy Marks said during an earnings conference call on April 22. The ACC is undergoing a US$1.6-billion redevelopment designed by LMN Architects that will transform it into a larger, vertically oriented facility. Expected to be completed in early 2029, the redevelopment will nearly double rentable space to 620,000 ft2, with a focus on sustainability and improved outdoor areas. Marks said the job includes Otis SkyRiseTM and Gen3TM elevators, as well as public escalators. "We view the expansion of the (ACC) as part of a broader modernization opportunity across the U.S. convention center segment, where many facilities built 20 to 30 years ago are now being upgraded to meet today's capacity, accessibility and performance requirements,” Marks said.
