Three Key Kyiv Metro Escalators To Undergo Repairs

Three escalators serving the Shulyvaska station of the Kyiv Metro in Kyiv, Ukraine, are undergoing repairs to enhance safety and accessibility, 112 UA reports. Work began in March and is set to wrap up at the end of 2026. To perform the work, each unit will be disassembled into individual components, and steps, handrails, gearboxes and other mechanical parts will be removed. To minimize disruption, the escalators will be taken out of service one at a time. Escalators typically undergo extensive repair every 10 to 12 years, or after covering 150,000 km of operation, to ensure optimum passenger comfort and safety. The Kyiv Metro serves hundreds of thousands of passengers each day, “making timely infrastructure upgrades critical for urban mobility,” the source observed.
