TÜD SÜD, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, achieved National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) accreditation to inspect and certify lifts in India. On December 22, compliance with the Indian Standards (IS) Series IS 17900 will become mandatory for all new lift installations, safety components and major modernizations. Replacing the outdated IS 14665 and related IS standards, the new IS 17900 standards introduce advanced safety requirements including Unintended Car Movement Protection and Ascending Car Overspeed Protection, emergency lighting backup for at least 1 h, mandatory type-test certification for all critical safety components and many others. The deadline set by the Bureau of Indian Standards affects developers, installers, facility managers, heritage projects, metro/airport facilities, public works and smart city projects. Non-compliance can lead to severe penalties, rejected occupancy certificates and invalidated insurance coverage.
