The Uzbekistan Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services has denied reports claiming that more than 9,000 elevators in Tashkent are faulty, UZ Daily reports. According to the ministry, there are 13,798 elevators across the country. In Tashkent alone, 9,144 elevators operate in 3,245 buildings. Of these, 1,835 elevators have exceeded their service life, and their replacement is already underway in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 98. The modernization program is scheduled for 2025–2028, with 452 elevators planned for replacement this year. Under Government Resolution No. 801, all elevators in Uzbekistan undergo mandatory annual technical inspections. And, since May 2025, a “Safe Elevator” has been operational, which is a real-time monitoring system for elevator conditions in apartment buildings. The system also provides citizens with up-to-date information on maintenance and technical status. The ministry emphasized that deficiencies identified during inspections do not mean the elevator is faulty.
