Limiting the number of passengers entering crowded stations is among measures being considered by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration after 28 people suffered minor injuries on August 20 when a passenger at the top of an upward-moving escalator fell backward at the Surasak Bangkok Transit System (BTS) Skytrain station, the Bangkok Post reports. The incident happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. as people leaving a concert rushed up the unit in rainy weather. When the person fell, it created a “domino effect.” The injured individuals — 26 women and two men — were taken to nearby hospitals, and BTS temporarily shut the escalator down for inspection.
