ViviStone Glass: (l-r) Honey Onyx, Sierra Onyx, Abalone Onyx and Cream Onyx

ViviStone™ creates new possibilities for elevator interior designs, freeing some constraints of elevator projects.

Few materials have the visual impact or distinctiveness of stone, yet working with stone has its challenges. Its weight and structural integrity make it difficult to work with, while visual inconsistencies limit design flexibility. Not only that, but relying on distant suppliers can affect project deadlines. Now, Forms+Surfaces® has launched ViviStone™ Glass, the latest addition to its VividGlass™ line of specialty architectural glass.

ViviStone Glass creates new possibilities for elevator interior designs, freeing architects and designers from the constraints of real stone and transforming projects. Com-prised of a graphic interlayer laminated between two lites of glass, ViviStone’s interlayers feature full-scale repre-sentations of stones selected from quarries from around the world. Because ViviStone slabs are glass, not stone, they afford size, weight and design flexibility not other-wise found.

The ViviStone line includes four distinctive stone fam-ilies: Honey Onyx, Abalone Onyx, Cream Onyx and Sierra Onyx. Each consists of a library of slabs that ranges from 40-50 in. wide by 80-100 in. long. Individual slabs within each library display the intricate detailing of real stone and offer variations in color and veining. Specifiers can use slabs in their entirety or define sections of varying size to configure, mirror and/or repeat to create original layouts. Slabs are available in 1/2 in., 1/4 in. and other standard glass thicknesses.

ViviStone is offered in two configurations:

  • “Reflect” is designed for elevator interiors and other wall applications where the glass will be used against another surface. In this configuration, the graphic  interlayer is laminated between a transparent lite of glass and a reflective glass backing.
  • “View” places the graphic interlayer between two transparent lites of glass that allow light to pass through. View is ideal for use in doors, railings, partitions and other applications where semi privacy is  desired. It can also be used in backlit configurations. Two finishing options are available to help define ViviStone’s surface appearance:
  •  “Peralex” is a lightly textured, non-reflective, non-distortive finish that creates a minimal amount of diffusion. It is fingerprint resistant, durable and easy to clean.
  • “Standard” is smooth, reflective, non-distortive, durable and easy to clean.

ViviStone is also the newest material available for LEVELe™, Forms+Surfaces’ cladding system for elevator interiors and walls. LEVELe can carry ViviStone through any space, from cab interior to building entry. LEVELe  elevator interiors can be configured for new-equipment or modernization projects. Complete packages including wall panels, handrails, ceilings and lighting are available for all typical sizes of passenger and service cabs, single or double opening.

To accompany the launch of ViviStone is Virtual Quarry, a free online tool that makes it easy for architects and  designers to capitalize on ViviStone’s design possibilities. Located on the Forms+Surfaces website, instructions guide users through every step of the process. Registered users can select from the library of ViviStone slabs and configure and assemble designs. To tour the Virtual Quarry, visit website: http://virtualquarry.vividglass.com. There, users can watch a short, informative video about the application or experience the program for themselves.
