Planned Goes From 12 to 40 Stories in Raleigh

The City Council in Raleigh, North Carolina, unanimously approved a rezoning request from Zimmer Development Corp. that takes a proposed downtown building from 12 to 40 stories, The News&Observer reported in September. Located on a vacant 1.5-acre plot at 506 Capital Boulevard near the intersection of Peace Street, the proposed tower now allows for up to 1,466 residential units and 1.7 million ft2. Landon Zimmer of Zimmer Development said his family hopes to land a big corporate tenant to fill most of the building, with retail on the lower level. Should a “corporate whale” fail to materialize, the mix could include multifamily units, office space and a hotel. The Zimmer property is directly across from the growing Smoky Hollow development from Kane Realty.

First of Two Towers Tops Out in Nashville Development

Broadwest, a two-tower mixed-use community in Nashville, has reached a construction milestone with the topping-out of its shorter, 21-story office building, several sources, including WKRN, reported in August. Broadwest, being developed by Propst Development, LLC, is a 1.2-million-ft2 project that will also include a 34-story tower with 196 high-end condominiums and a 237-room Conrad Hotel by Hilton. Connecting the two towers will be 125,000 ft2 of retail, more office space and a 1.5-acre plaza. A seven-level underground parking facility is also being constructed. The homes will range from one-bedroom, 908-ft2 units to three-bedroom, 1,952-ft2 residences. Nine penthouses will range from 1,903-4,455 ft2. The office tower will offer 510,000 ft2 of Class-AA space. Completion of the project, which covers a full city block at 1600 West End Avenue, is expected in 2021.
