Drives, doors, online tools and components are showcased this month.
Compact Escalator Drives
Renold Gears has launched a new range of compact escalator drives as a solution for installation in restricted spaces. Its WH Series escalator drives are approximately half the height and weight of comparable, traditional units and meet the demands of escalator manufacturers and engineers in the heavy-duty mass-transit sector, where there are space restrictions for the escalator’s drive system. Their horizontal motor and gear arrangement is designed to reduce the height of the units and permit in-truss installations for space-saving internally driven systems. They are also narrow enough to enable double drive configurations where required. Features such as low noise and efficiency are due to a two-stage worm/helical reduction.
Calculator Tool for Regenerative Savings
KEB America, Inc. has released an online elevator regenerative calculator that provides users with an estimate of their annual energy savings when using a KEB regenerative unit and a breakeven analysis for the investment. The company explains that at various times during a traction elevator’s operation, energy is both delivered to and returned from the elevator system, and a regenerative system allows that energy to be returned to the utility line. A product of years of development, the tool allows a user to enter basic elevator, usage and investment parameters, then approximates the regenerative savings one could expect.

Elevator Remote Control
Vertitron Midwest, Inc.’s Elevator on Command facilitates access to a freight elevator without having to leave a vehicle. These remotes are intended for use in warehouses or parking garages for valet services and condominiums. They are customizable and programmable.
Replacement Doors
MEI-Total Elevator Solutions is now manufacturing replacement doors and touts a lead time of two to three weeks. The products are also crated and packaged on end to keep them straight. Options include powder-coated or stainless-steel finish, single or two speed, center or side opening, and standard or custom sizes.
Portable Bearing Heaters
Englewood, Colorado-based Reata Engineering & Machine Works, Inc. manufactures ConeMount portable bearing heaters, which are now available in Canada. Unlike heavy induction units or ovens, ConeMount units can be carried to a worksite for bearing installations and repairs, promoting bearing longevity.
New Lift Management Portal
Apex Lifts has launched Apex Computer Aided Lift Management (C.A.L.M), a customer login area and management portal that provides real-time updates of lift service, maintenance and repairs. Intended to give customers an “on-the-move view” of their lifts, the product includes arrival times of engineers and the specific work they will be performing. It also features an interactive calendar tool and downloadable call-out reports. Elevators that have repeated faults can be tracked through email reports, and its “traffic-light system for instant identification of progress” was designed with the building or facilities manager in mind.
