Lift AI

Pilot Program With MBTA

In partnership with Newark, Delaware-based Liberty Elevator Experts, Internet of Things company Lift AI is starting a pilot elevator-monitoring program with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) under a two-year contract with two one-year options. The authority told ELEVATOR WORLD the program is aimed at improving customer experience. It will start with 10 elevators and, if deemed successful, will be rolled out to additional elevators.

The package includes set pricing for hardware and software and staff training for one year. If successful, the MBTA will use grant money to purchase additional remote-monitoring systems. With monitoring set to start in June, MBTA told EW:

“Currently, elevator outages are reported manually as they are discovered, and the data is entered into a legacy maintenance software tracking tool, which then publishes to the MBTA website and other digital channels. MBTA seeks to trial real-time monitoring to potentially automate the reporting of elevator outages to ensure that customers do not encounter elevators that are unknowingly out of service. Monitoring elevators over time will also allow the MBTA to better plan for upgrades and replacements. Since elevator replacement is time-consuming and costly, this additional data will help inform how replacements are prioritized.”

Madden Partnership

Lift AI recently partnered with Louisville, Kentucky-based Madden Elevator Co. to bring more than 600 elevators in its maintenance portfolio onto the Lift AI software platform. Customers in the greater Louisville area may now access Madden’s new range of elevator-maintenance offerings powered by Lift AI’s sensor-based monitoring technology.

Founded by Rob Wurth, Lift AI is headquartered in Detroit with an engineering office in Austin, Texas.

New CTO

In June, the company named Adam Duren chief technology officer (CTO). Based in Seattle, Duren hails from northwest Florida and has a background in computer science. He has been building software for more than 15 years and, according to Lift AI, “brings a wealth of knowledge.” Prior to joining Lift AI, Duren was a software engineer at several startups, as well as at Cerner Corp., based in Kansas City, where he built an analytics solution used by more than 300 hospitals. He holds degrees in Computer Science from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida, and Chipola College in Marianna, Florida.
