News from Chicago YIMBY: residential and mixed-use towers proliferate
One Chicago Square’s Mixed-Used Skyscrapers Pass Halfway Mark
Construction on the 74- and 49-story mixed-use towers comprising One Chicago Square (ELEVATOR WORLD, April 2020) at 1 West Chicago Avenue reached the halfway mark in October. JDL is the developer and Goettsch Partners and Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture are the designers of the US$850-million project near where River North, the Magnificent Mile and the Gold Coast meet. The development’s 735 apartments will fill the shorter tower, parts of the taller tower and a six-story podium, and the taller tower will include an additional 77 condominium units. One Chicago Square will also house 188,000 ft2 of retail, 55,000 ft2 of office space and amenities including a fitness center, a restaurant and a large rooftop deck. Power Construction is the general contractor, and completion is scheduled in 2022.
Renderings Provide Look at Duo Condo Project in Chicago
New renderings revealed in September provide a detailed look at the 47-story Cirrus and 37-story Cascade, condominium towers designed by bKL and being developed by Lendlease (EW, June 2020) on the waterfront in Chicago’s Lakeshore East. With completion anticipated in 2021, Cirrus and Cascade are located at 211 North Harbor Drive and 455 East Waterside Drive, respectively, and are part of a larger development. Cirrus will offer 363 condos, and Cascade will contain approximately 500, with residents of both provided plenty of natural light and views of Lake Michigan, the Chicago River and a new park. Amenities include outdoor decks, indoor and outdoor spas, swimming pools, communal lounges (including rooftop ones with fire pits), private workspaces and an interior garden conservancy.
